Diet
pills are used by millions of the people around the world hence the side effect
of these should not be neglected or ignored. Most of the persons who want to
loss weight are basically healthy, and they should not be given medicines which
can harm them. And the other thing that is noticeable in the case of this type
of medicine is that their function to control weight is short term. Many
examples of the side effects have been seen.
Diet and weight loss pills can have a significant impact on
our metabolism, blood pressure and health. Whether they assist weight loss or
not, most weight loss pills have unpleasant side effects, create drug-dependency
and interference with other medications. They are just a short-term solution for
severely overweight dieters.
As the weight loss pills contain a cocktail of ingredients
and because the dosage instruction mentioned on them may inadequate the side
effects can vary enormously.
These pills can have side effects like nervousness, tremor,
diarrhea, bulging eyes, racing heartbeat, elevated blood pressure even heart
failure. There is a common problem with these types of drugs and that is
overdose. In some cases of over dosage the outcomes were very disastrous.
There are some diet pills which work on the brain to reduce
the appetite. These types of medicines can raise the blood pressure level, cause
chest pain, hair loss and depression. Some other diet pills can cause problems
like diarrhea and oily stool, and the side effects of these types of pills can
be reduced to some extent by using a low fat plan.
Generally a patient's weight tends to level off after four to
six months while still on medication. The leveling off may mean that the
medication has reached its limit of effectiveness. Based on the currently
available studies, it is not clear if weight gain with continuing treatment is
due to drug tolerance.
The doctors need to follow certain restrictions when
prescribing weight-loss medications. Although abuse and dependence are not
common with these drugs, yet the doctors should be cautious when prescribing
these pills for patients who had been taking alcohol or other drugs in the past.
All clinical trials of weight loss pills have shown that
weight loss drug therapy is only effective when part of a comprehensive weight
management program of diet, exercise and weight loss support is to be followed.
